Election Day!!?!?!?
Ever since Former President Trump lost the election back a year ago, there has been all this talk about elections being fraudulent. To this day that claim has been held up by large republican voices. To bring everything around the reason the January 6th riots happened was republicans were claiming fraud and the only way to change that is to threaten politicians.
I*n the present day there are elections that are going happening in Atlanta and their are new restrictions happening in the state to see what is going to work. Minnesota's Secretary of State who is democratic compares this election cycle to a dress rehearsal. Which is fair because there are going to be many changes taking place and instead of them being a surprise they are going to be practiced and tweaked throughout the upcoming months.
From here I am going to break down the specifics....
***New Jersey and Virginia are the two states that are being looked at the closest. The reason it is these two states because they are having statewide elections for governors and the like, not local like other states at this time.
***In Virginia, you no longer need an excuse to absentee vote, but you do need a witness signature. A witness signature just means someone watches them signing the ballot, which is an idea I like. Because I am a political science major I find that a necessity because I believe in free and fair elections.
***Georgia and Florida have new ID requirements which could be a good and bad thing. Also in Georgia they are keeping an eye on Fulton County because it is heavily democratic. Personally, I believe that is bogus, republicans are looking at everything except themselves to see something mess up.
***There will be hotlines available to help people who have questions about voting. I like this idea because the internet is there but its also filled with misinformation especially when it comes to a topic like voting so the best thing to do would be to talk to another human well versed in the law.
Furthermore there are people saying that this is going to be a test of our democracy, which I think is something that happens every time there is an opportunity to vote for someone on a major scale. One of the unspoken rules of the presidency is that it has to be a peaceful transition of power. So every year that someone loses they have to be willing to give up the power peacefully which I believe is more of a "test" of our democracy.
Questions:
My question for you guys is what are your thoughts about these new laws that are put in place in republican led states? Do you believe that this is just a ploy to manipulate the system for their betterment, or is this something that looks like is going to work. And finally, have you been the polls lately and witnessed different procedure than you did last time?
